AI takes on fitness

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that was released in November 2022. It is going to be a huge topic this year and for the foreseeable future as it has the opportunity to greatly change the world. This AI interacts with users in a conversational way and has garnered much controversy lately. At this point, we don’t know how this program will impact jobs, schools, or really any part of society. There is no doubt Chat GPT will learn, grow, and develop with time.

Chat GPT Fitness Program

We don’t know much about Chat GPT, but I hear it’s pretty smart. There have been videos of it solving code, creating stock market-solving models, and writing essays. Let’s put it to the test and see how well it can write a fitness program.

That was a very basic answer to a very basic question. Nothing mind-blowing but very impressed to include all elements of warm-up, strength, cardio, and cool down. Now let’s get more detailed.

Pretty impressive. ChatGPT says to do a hinge, squat, upper body pull, upper body push, and a core exercise. Throw in a unilateral leg exercise and you have yourself a solid full-body routine. A nice little note at the bottom to further take care of your body and progress this workout. Let’s do one last program.

Although no nutritional advice, it is impressive how fast it is able to break down each 4-week block. However, it appears ChatGPT likes a particular couple of exercises. Granted they are all good exercises, but some more variation could be useful. Also, some advice on how to progress the exercises would be helpful as well. It seems to want the user to do this routine all four days at the gym which is concerning. Although this is not perfect, we will revisit ChatGPT in the future. As this program learns and becomes smarter, my prediction is it will be writing some of the best exercise programs you can find. How far into the future that is, we will find out together. I encourage you to try ChatGPT out yourself!
