It feels like a day can’t go by without the mention of AI. ChatGPT is used by millions of people. Copilot is helping write everyone’s emails. Gemini makes it so we don’t even scroll through Google links anymore. The world’s future seems tied to Nvidia and any other company in the AI race.
So let’s take it back a few years to when AI was first hitting the scene. I published an article: https://thestrongdays.com/can-chatgpt-create-the-best-exercise-program-in-the-world/. Now, let’s revisit it and check in on AI’s impact on exercise and the fitness industry.
Let’s start with the most obvious application of our AI friends. As we touched on in that article from three years ago, AI is able to do a great job of developing workout programs for individuals. It is important to prompt the AI with as much information as possible in order to receive an effective program. Any of the general cloud-based AIs, such as ChatGPT or Grok, can create a solid plan for you. Is this as good as working with a trainer? Probably not, because of all the follow-up and feedback a trainer can give. Using AI in tandem with a trainer is probably best advised for beginners.
Next, we are seeing companies embrace these AI platforms. Life Time even created its own AI companion, L.AI.C. This is a great tool that connects to Life Time–specific videos to help you navigate the club—whether it’s using machines, supplements, or answering general club questions. If everyone is going to have these AI assistants, it makes sense to have one geared toward your own health club.
AI will continue to be a tool used by companies on the rise as well. FitGenie uses AI for meal plans. Spurfit is another AI-driven company that analyzes goals, body metrics, and workout plans. We also see Whoop using AI to analyze personal metrics, including heart rate, sleep patterns, and activity levels. The list goes on, and this will continue to grow as it’s already evident that professionals, companies, and the public see how much AI can impact fitness and health.
Where will the future take AI and fitness? We are still in the very early days of AI’s impact on fitness. AI-powered smart home gyms, more AI fitness apps and chatbots, and wearables are all sure to be in our future. We will also keep a close eye on how robotics will impact the fitness industry—but that’s an article for another day.
